Self-taught Spanish designer Fernando Abellanas recently installed this whimsical little shelter under a graffiti-covered bridge somewhere in Valencia – he’s keeping its exact location a secret.
He came up with the idea when thinking of what it’s like to be a child hiding under a tablecloth or playing in a den.
The shelter makes use of the existing beams as rails. To use it, he walks into the shelter, then uses a hand crank to move it to where a table, shelves, and a place to sit are installed.
There’s even some bedding so he can spend the night (though no toilet)
The shelter will stay in place until it’s removed by authorities or ruined by vandals. It’s only the first of a series of similar ideas Abellanas has planned, so we look forward to seeing what else he comes up with.
Obviously this isn’t really meant to be a practical idea but it does seem to have some merit. What do you think, could you see it being repurposed into some kind of low-cost housing?
