Our cities aren’t exactly likely to get less crowded any time soon but maybe tiny homes could be the answer to more affordable urban housing? That’s the idea behind the Tikku, by Casagrande Laboratories, which is a tiny house that fits into a parking space.
The Tikku (Finnish for Stick) has a footprint of just 2.5 x 5 m (8.2 x 16.4 ft) and a total floorspace of 37.5 sq m (403 sq ft), split over three floors.
The prototype model shown was recently built for Helsinki Design Week and is divided into a work area on the first floor, a bedroom upstairs, and a small greenhouse/living space on the top floor.
It includes a dry toilet and electricity comes from solar power. There’s no running water or even a kitchen, but the idea is that occupants would get whatever food they need from the city.
The Tikku starts at $41,500.
