Downsizing is one thing for a single person or a couple, but it gets a little tricky if you add a couple of kids to the mix. The Retreat, by Alabama-based Timbercraft Tiny Homes, has all the benefits of a tiny house – portability, cost, style, etc – but still has enough room to fit an impressive six people.
The Retreat measures 33 ft (10 m)-long and has a total floorspace of 416 sq ft (38.6 sq m), which really is pretty roomy for house you can tow on normal US roads behind your truck without a permit.
The home’s exterior is clad in board and batten siding and it’s topped by a standing seam metal roof. Inside, the floor, walls and ceiling are all finished in pine.
Visitors enter through a cute little porch and French doors into a spacious living room, which looks very high-end and features a large leather couch, an electric fireplace, and storage space. Next to this space is a small kitchen with big house appliances, like a four-burner range oven and fridge/freezer. The bathroom, meanwhile, is a little on the smaller side, but does boast a full-size bath/shower, toilet, and sink.
The Retreat has a total of three bedrooms, each with a double bed. The first is on the ground floor (in the gooseneck) and includes a queen-size and enough headroom to stand upright, while the other two are loft bedrooms and reached by ladder. In a nice touch they are joined to each other by a small catwalk, allowing occupants to quickly move from one to another.
The Retreat gets its electricity from a standard RV-style hookup and was recently sold to a couple in Georgia. If you want one just like it, Timbercraft Tiny Homes will built it for $79,000.
