The classic VW bus is one of the most iconic vehicles of all time and continues to have a pretty big presence in the small living community, so it’s exciting to learn that Volkswagen has finally unveiled its spiritual successor for the electric age, the I.D. Buzz.
VW has a tough task on its hands in trying to improve on the timeless styling of both the VW Splitscreen and Bay Window models and we don’t think the firm has managed it with its new I.D. Buzz. (just look at the original below for comparison). That said, the I.D Buzz does look very quirky and cute. It even has a sliding door like the Bay Window.
While it may not look as good, the I.D Buzz does boast some benefits over the old VW’s, however. It will be powered by an electric motor and batteries, rather than gasoline. You can expect a very tricked-out interior too, with voice control and even semi-autonomous driving tech a possibility. Considering the older models don’t have intermittent windscreen wipers, a clock, or even a cup holder, that’s quite the step-up!
Due to go on sale in 2022, the I.D. Buzz will be offered in two versions: a commercial delivery van and a Microbus-style version.
What do you think, could the I.D Buzz be the vehicle to finally replicate the magic of the old VW bus?
