Danish firm Vipp decided to dip its toe into the small living movement with the industrial-looking Vipp Shelter. Described as a “battery charging station for humans,” the prefabricated cabin can be installed anywhere, to offer a luxury off-grid retreat away from it all.
The Vipp Shelter consists of a metal-and-glass rectangular box and is raised off-the-ground on stilts. The interior floorspace comes in at a relatively large – for a tiny house, anyway – 55 sq m (592 sq ft).
“The objective was not to make a house or a mobile home,” says the firm. “Vipp is rooted in the manufacture of industrial objects, so the term shelter is a typology that allows us to define this hybrid as a spacious, functionally generic, livable object.”
The interior layout is open, black and swish-looking. The ground floor includes a kitchen, dining area, bathroom and a living area with and fireplace.
A ladder leads up to the bedroom proper, which is a cramped sleeping loft and includes a glazed ceiling. Indeed, the glazing throughout this one is very generous.
If you’re interested in the Shelter, it starts at a cool $580,000, not including extras such as solar power and the like. Contact Vipp for more information.
