Living in a cardboard box usually means you’ve fallen on hard times, but former theater company Fiction Factory hopes people will actually pay good money for the honor. The firm has unveiled an enviable cardboard tiny house named the Wikkelhouse that can be built in just one day.
The Wikkelhouse comprises 24 layers of high-strength cardboard as its main building material. The tiny house requires no foundations, just a level surface, and is clad in a waterproof cover. The interior is finished in wood paneling.
Prefabricated in a factory in Amsterdam, it’s available for shipping all over Europe and weighs a mere 500 kg.
The homes are modular so can be purchased in multiple sizes but a typical Wikkelhouse would include a kitchen, bathroom, living room, and a wood burning stove. It looks like a surprisingly appealing place to live.
Durability is one obvious concern with this thing but Wikkelhouse’s makers promise the house will have a lifespan of at least 50 years. It’s available to purchase from €30,000 for the most basic model.
