The Laurier, by Quebec-based company Minimaliste, is a tiny house with a difference. Though unassuming from the outside, it runs off-the-grid and can stand up to extreme cold temperature thanks to a neat underfloor heating system – the first of its kind in a tiny house.
The Laurier measures 32 ft (9.7 m)-long and is finished with a cedar exterior and metal accenting. It’s based on a triple-axle trailer.
Visitors enter into a living room with sofa bed. The kitchen is nearby and looks spacious and includes a novel “mirrored table,” which is a mirror affixed to the wall that lowers down to serve as a dining table.
Elsewhere, the tiny house includes a downstairs bedroom, bathroom with shower and a storage-integrated staircase that leads up to a guest bedroom in the loft.
The Laurier gets all power from a roof-based solar panel array that’s hooked up to eight batteries. Its underfloor heating runs from propane and Minimaliste reports that the house can handle temperatures as low as minus 40° C (- 40° F).
