British architecture firm Studio Weave and collective Bruit du Frigo designed this beautiful raised shelter as part of the Les Refuges Périurbains project, which has installed similar shelters throughout the outskirts of Bordeaux, France. It’s available free of charge to anyone who wants to use it.
Le Haut Perché is installed in a woodland area with grassy fields and nearby streams. Inspired by the design of nearby water towers, its clad in timber and is raised off the ground on weathered steel stilts.
Access to the interior is gained by climbing a small staircase and once inside, there’s enough room to sleep six. No electricity or toilet is provided, though there is a public toilet nearby.
Those interested in staying at Le Haut Perché need to head to its website (in French) and place a booking to get the key.
