Kristie Wolfe is a designer, dressmaker and tiny house builder who has several tiny homes to her name. One of her most recent works is an authentic-looking off-grid Hobbit Home that looks like it could have been lifted right from the set of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies.
Wolfe’s Hobbit Home is built into the mountainside of Chelan, Washington. and blends into the scenery so well that you could easily miss it. Visitors reach the dwelling by crossing a little gate and garden and enter the interior using a round door.
Inside, the Hobbit Home comprises just 288 sq ft (26.7 sq m) of floorspace, which is divided between a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and living area.
The tiny dwelling operates off-the-grid using solar panels hooked up to a battery system for when the sun’s not out. Water is delivered by a nearby water tower and a toilet is hooked up to a septic tank. A grey water system filters and redistributes shower water to the garden to water the grass.
If you’d like to stay in this amazing dwelling yourself, it’s available to rent on Airbnb.
