Canada’s Backcountry Hut Company recently unveiled its latest model, the Surf Shack. The flatpack tiny house is very easy to assemble and comes with a lot of options, including the ability to run on or off-the-grid.
The Surf Shack has a total floorspace of 191 sq ft (17.7 sq m), though can also be purchased in larger configurations.
Its interior includes a living and dining area, kitchenette, and a bathroom. A wood-burning stove keeps the cold at bay and a porch at each side of the home offers some outdoor space too. A staircase leads to the sole bedroom, though more bedrooms can be added at cost.
The Surf Shack is delivered in flatpack form by truck or helicopter and assembly is a breeze. BHC likens it to assembling some Ikea furniture and four people with some basic skills should be able to assemble a Surf Shack within a week.
The cabins can run on or off-the-grid with options like solar power and composting toilet. The Surf Shack starts at CAN$55,000 (roughly US$45,000).
